Continuation and Conclusion of Diabetes

Children and Teens and Diabetes Type 2

Certain conditions enhance the chances of becoming a Diabetic, and one of these is simply being overweight.  Obesity is increasing in children and teens. Inheritance and genetic susceptibility are other conditions that could lead to it. As a matter of fact, 75% of children with type 2 diabetes have a close relative who has it too.

However, it occurs among household members living together who are not related. Environmental and living conditions are relevant and living habits can contribute. Here are suggestions:

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables.
  • Drink less sugary drinks, and more good water.
  • Fun physical activities, healthy food
  • Do not smoke
  • Alcohol moderation

The important thing is to get support.  Connect with others who share your experience through the American Diabetes Association’s Community Pageexternal icon and its Peer support Resourcesexternal icon. There are many others with your condition and you need to learn to have support always there, standing by, who can and are willing to help. If I had this condition I would be part of a local support group, contact medical that I could reach quickly, as well as study up on it and become as knowledgeable as possible you can then help others as well.

What is it? It is self-defining. It is diabetes that hasn’t let you know it is there – yet.

It’s when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as type 2.  Did you know that around 96 million American adults, more than one in three, have prediabetes? It puts one with this condition to be considered a risk of developing type 2, heart disease ad stroke.

Believe it or not, there is some sunshine here, not much, but enough to encourage the person facing the fact that he or she has this disease, is that the CDC-leg National Diabetes Prevention Program can help to make lifestyle changes to prevent or delay type 2. You are a candidate if You are overweight, 45 years or older, have a relative with type 2, and are not physically active.

It is so easy to lose even a small amount of weight, and have regular exercise, even a brisk 30-minute walk every day. It is so easy to get a simple blood sugar test to rule out this destiny.

High Blood Sugar Can Make You Feel Tired and Irritable. It Doesn’t Hurt

High blood sugar damages blood vessels and nerves and can cause trouble from the eyes to your feet. If it starts hurting, the damage is already done.

How To Avoid Damage Diabetes Can Do to The Body

Though there is no known cure for it, there are ways to avoid damage once you know you have it:

(1) Manage blood sugar levels. You can learn what to do such as working with dietitians to develop a meal plan of foods that you like and helps you get the nutrients you need and not eat too many carbohydrates at any meal or snack.

(2) Check your blood sugar in the morning or two hours after a meal with a small glucose meter that provides information on its level and the effects of any medication you are taking.

(3) Maintaining your proper weight and a 30-minute walk helps lower blood sugar and to be healthy all over. Doing this daily will maintain blood sugar levels without it doing any damage.

This is not such an onerous routine but if you are prediabetes, it is easy to maintain – just consider what would happen if you didn’t do it.

What are carbohydrates? They are sugar molecules. Along with proteins and fats, carbs are one of the three main nutrients found in foods and drinks. As written before, your body breaks down carbs into glucose, which is blood sugar and the main source of energy for your body’s cells, tissues, and organs. It can be stored in your liver and muscles for later use. Carbs are the body’s favorite fuel.

Three Main Types of Carbs

Sugars in candy, desserts, processed foods, and even some fruits and milk.

Starches are a lot of simple sugars strung together, as in bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, and Corn.

Fiber. The body cannot break down most fibers, so eating foods with fiber can help you feel full and make you less likely to overeat. The trick is to watch your quantity intake as well as the items that are eaten. Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and whole grains.

Which Foods Have Carbs?

  • Grains, bread, noodles, pasta, rice
  • Fruits, apples, bananas, berries melons
  • Dairy-milk and yogurt
  • Legumes, dried beans, peas, lentils
  • Snack foods and sweets, cakes, cookies desserts
  • Juices, regular sodas, fruit drinks, sports and energy drinks that have sugar
  • Starchy vegetables, potatoes, corn, peas.
  • Some don’t have a lot of carbs like meat, fish, poultry, some cheeses, nuts, and oils.

Diabetes 2 Is Not The End of Your Gourmet Life

In other words, you still may dine with pleasure on your favorite food. First, get a good diet and stick with it, watch the number of servings, exercise and keep the body moving and blood circulating, maintain medications, maintain blood sugar levels by getting a meter checking it daily, maintain a support group, and there you have it. Simple.

The Fix-It and Forget-it Diabetic Cookbook

This is a great way to find food that is perfect for your condition cooked in a crockpot. I have used its big brother, “Fix-It and Forget-It” in making crockpot meals for years. All of the recipes are perfect and tasty. It is available, as is everything under the sun and moon, on Amazon.

Take a look at the book I recommend above and see the first page, under Beef Main Dishes, and read the ingredients under Beef Stew. These ingredients are no different from the recipe I have been using with my crock pot without any consideration of having Diabetes. It is just plain delicious. As a Cajun Cook, I would recommend a dash of Cajun seasoning to spice up the meal.

Now that wasn’t so bad was it? I think we covered the good, bad and ugly aspects of Diabetes types 1 and 2 and Prediabetes that you should know to help you through if you have it or give you the understanding needed for any family or friend who has it.

There are supplements available to help you with your blood sugar. Check out Customnutra’s inventory as a premier manufacturer and supplier of what you may need, of course with the advice of your dietitian and/or doctor. Never fail to keep to their advice; they know what they are talking about.
